We have had a great first week of school! Mrs. Smith and I have been very impressed with how quick the kids have caught on to our expectations and procedures. This is going to be a great year! Some notes that will help you along the way:
*ALWAYS ask if you don't know! Feel free to email, write a note, or call if you have any questions. We try to explain everything but sometimes we miss over key information.
*Library books come home on Tuesdays and are returned on Tuesdays. I suggest keeping the library book in your child's backpack so he/she has it and can check out a new one on Library days.
*No Excuse Words: We will learn one or two new words each week. Your child will be expected to read and spell each word by the end of the year. We will start on Monday. Check the blog, website, and newsletter to find out what words we are learning for the week.
*Homework: We will begin homework on September 7. If you misplace the homework sheet, you can check our website for the assignments.
*CAFE: CAFE stands for Comprehension, Accuracy, Fluency, and Expanding Vocabulary. We will pull our Read-Aloud and guided reading group skills from the CAFE menu each day. See this post on my blog to find out more about Balanced Literacy: http://bshepherdsflock.blogspot.com/2008/09/balanced-literacy.html.
*Email: If you gave me your email address and did not receive an email from me, please let me know. Also, Mr. Hanvey will be using these email addesses to contact parents. If you do NOT want Mr. Hanvey to contact you via the email you provided me, please let me know.
