Falling into a Routine

Fall officially begins on Sunday! This is such a fun time of year for students and kindergarten teachers, alike.  We have continued to work on "I Can" lists and have begun working on our reading stamina.  Just like we must train our bodies to endure tasks, we must train our brain to endure longer periods of actively engaged reading.

In Math, we have been learning about ordering numbers and comparing sets of objects.

Please make note of Johnny Appleseed's birthday, as we will be dressing up for this fun day.  Also, our field trip is on Friday.

I'm off to tailgate with the most awesome 8 and under football players I have ever met, so have a great weekend!

September Fun

This is just a quick post to let you know what's been going on in our classroom! We are still learning our school-wide and classroom expectations. We are continuing to show progress in showing our STARR behavior (Self-Controlled Thinkers Achieving Respect and Responsibility).

This week we worked a lot on I Can lists for some of our Literacy Stations.  We have also talked a lot about how we listen to a book: our eyes are on the reader or the book, we are sitting on our bottom, our hands are on our knees, and we are thinking about what is going on in the story.

In math, we have moved on from recognizing, counting to, and writing numbers 1-5 to differentiating groups by more, fewer, or same as.  The biggest challenge in math is following group directions, which is typical at this stage in kindergarten.

We have also been doing a lot with our names!

This week has been very busy, and as the time passes, we will continue to get busier and busier.  In a few weeks, we will begin Literacy Stations, which means the responsibility of learning will slowly progress from the teacher to the students. We are taking it slow to ensure everyone is well-aware of all expectations in each and every station so that we will all be successful!

Please continue to work on name writing (correct letters in the correct formation), No Excuse Words, letters, and sounds.  In October, our homework will become a little more challenging.

As always, please let me know if you have any questions or concerns!
