What does balanced literacy look like (especially in a kindergarten classroom)?
Balanced literacy includes reading and writing throughout the day through a few main components. The components and what they are called in my daily schedule are:
Reading Aloud (to children)
Shared Reading (with children/Poem of the Week)
Guided Reading (small groups/conferencing/Literacy Stations)
Writing Aloud (author studies)
Shared Writing (with children/ILES-Individual Language Experience Stories)
Independent Writing

Loving the blog! It's so nice to know exactly how he is learning. It gives us plenty of conversation material with him! I know that he is LOVING school and enjoys the friends he has made. Thanks Mrs. Shepherd, Mrs. Smith & Ms. S!!!
